NEWARK,
NJ, SEPTEMBER 29, 2006 – Beautiful
Newark announces Cash Prize contest
to promote anti-litter campaign and
its kick-off event
“ONE DAY”,
which takes place on
Saturday,
October 7, 2006.
ONE DAY is a citywide
community event launched by the
Beautiful Newark partnership between
Mayor Cory Booker and Superintendent
Marion Bolden. This youth-led effort,
organized by The League, is the
call to action in response to the
highly avoidable issue of litter
in the City of Newark. Unprecedented
in approach, the goal of the Beautiful
Newark anti-litter and beautification
campaign is to engage and mobilize
the entire city on “one day”.
To this end, a collaborative effort
of both public and private sector
organizations has sparked a movement
of generosity. One organization
in particular, the Newark Alliance,
has donated $10,000 to be offered
as a prize in the Beautiful Newark
contest! This contest is an addition
to the growing list of raffle prizes.
Raffle prizes include: Two (2)
roundtrip tickets on JetBlue (anywhere
they fly), a Flat Screen TV, Skybox
tickets at Bears Stadium, autographed
basketballs from NJ Nets Stars,
$25 Visa Gift Cards, Hobby's Delicatessen
& other Restaurant Gift Certificates,
Gift Basket from Pooka Pure &
Simple All - Natural Organic Skin
Products, AND MORE!!
During Beautiful Newark’s Press
Announcement at University High
School on Wednesday, September 20,
2006, Mayor Cory Booker spoke of
his most recent chase to protect
the City of Newark. Leaping in advance
of his security team, charging “Not
In My City!” the Mayor spoke of
his venture, not chasing a bank
robber, this time, but a drive-by
litter bug.
Also, Dr. Sampson Davis of The
Three Doctors Foundation announced
a Positive Peer Pressure Challenge
now open to youngsters 10-18 years
old that participate in ONE DAY.
Positive Peer Pressure Challenge
prizes include laptop computers
and iPods.
To ensure that Beautiful Newark
is more than just ONE DAY, the Mayor
and Superintendent are collaborating
on long term plans to fight litter
in the City.
