To a more beautiful Newark!
Beautiful Newark 2006 Campaign
Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Superintendent Marion A. Bolden announced a partnership between the City and the Newark Public Schools to promote an anti-litter campaign,
. The 2006 Beautiful Newark campaign kicked off with a citywide community event, ONE DAY, on Saturday October 7, 2006.
ONE DAY 2006 was a citywide community event that launched the Beautiful Newark partnership between Mayor Cory Booker and Superintendent Marion Bolden. This youth-led effort, organized by The LEAGUE, is the call to action in response to the highly avoidable issue of litter in the City of Newark. Unprecedented in approach, the goal of the
anti-litter and beautification campaign is to engage and mobilize the entire city on ONE DAY.
$10,000 Contest, October 2006
Thank you to all who participated.
Congratulations to volunteers at all 115
sites in Newark for ONE DAY!
The Newark Alliance generously donated
$10,000 as a cash prize to whichever site had
the biggest impact visually from a submitted
before and after photo. Since it would have
not been possible for judges to visit all the
sites on one day, each site had to option to
submit their very best before and after photo
that captures the impact they had that day.
All the sites were terrific, and volunteer judges
from different parts of the city not involved
in any of the sites, narrowed it down until
we reach the following three finalists. Each
of the finalists was selected by their one best
before and after impact photo.
Polls were open
FROM 10/19/06 12 noon until Monday 10/23/06
11:59pm
The public repeatedly voted for one of the three
finalists who they believed deserved the $10,000
from the Newark Alliance. The finalists were:
• Cleveland School
• Louise A. Spencer/Boys & Girls Clubs of
Newark – Avon Avenue
• Stop Shootin’
